Ballot Box

Local Liberal Democrats have gained two seats on the new East Cheshire Council in Crewe.

Liberal Democrat candidates David Cannon and Betty Howell topped the poll in Crewe South on Thursday.

In the same ward, the current Labour Council Group Leader failed to win a seat on the new East Cheshire Council.

Liberal Democrat Elizabeth Shenton said, "David Cannon and Betty Howell thoroughly deserve this. Both are excellent local councillors with a record of getting things done for local people."

She continued, "We have beaten the Labour leader. It's clear that this is another very bad day for the Labour Party in Crewe and Nantwich."
