Baroness Ros Scott and Evan Harris MP will be among the guest speakers at the North West Liberal Democrat Conference, in Widnes on Saturday 17th October. Ros will be keynote speaker as the President of the Lib Dem Party. Other key speakers include Andrew Stunell MP, and Lib Dem LGA leader Cllr Richard Kemp. Regional Conference is open to all Lib Dem party members: advance registration closes on 7th October.

South Cheshire College, in Dane Bank Avenue, is right on the boundary of Crewe South Ward. So, it might seem that redevelopment of the College is a minor issue for the ward councillors. In fact, the impact on the lives of people living in the adjacent streets has been enormous. The issues thrown up involve both former councils and other agencies as well. Now that Cheshire East Council has taken over from Cheshire County and Crewe & Nantwich Borough, the regulatory background is simpler. The three ward councillors address the problems on a cross party basis, and draw on knowledge of the Borough and the County.

Crewe and Nantwich's Labour MP, Gwyneth Dunwoody, has died following a major heart operation. Ms Dunwoody was 77, the longest-serving female MP in Parliament. Her son David said that she died "in a gentle and calm way" on Thursday evening after being ill for about a week.
